What is Flag Day? Let's find out!

What It Is
This holiday was established in 1916 but is not an official federal holiday. It is a day to honor our American flag, a symbol of freedom, pride, and unity throughout America. The flag embodies the best qualities of our country; justice, liberty, love, and freedom for all.
History of Flag Day
The most common nickname for our flag is the "Stars and Stripes." The original flag had only 13 stars, one for each colony. However, there are still 13 stripes to represent those 13 original colonies.
The colors of the flag also have meaning.
Red: represents valor and is named "Old Glory Red"
White: represents purity and is named "White"
Blue: represents perseverance and is named "Old Glory Blue"
Our American Flag
Over the years, our flag has changed many times: from the 13 colonies represented by 13 stars in a circle to various other amounts of stars, eventually transforming into our current flag design.
A 17-year-old student created the flag's most current design! Robert Heft designed it for a school project, which was submitted along with 1,500 designs from other students. President Dwight D. Eisenhower chose his! Age does not define you, so reach for the stars!
